We, the members of Jharkhand Tribal Students Association (JTSA) / Adivasi Students’ Network (AdSN) are extremely pained to Inform all of you of the demise of our most revered Adivasi Leader, Activist, Artist, Scholar and Visionary Dr. Ram Dayal Munda. He was suffering from Cancer for some time and breathed his last at Appolo Hospital, Ranchi on 30th September 2011. A Padmashri recipient, Munda completed his education from Ranchi University in 1957 and became the vice-chancellor of the same University in 1986/87. After completing MA (Anthropology), Munda did his Ph.D from University of Chicago. A visiting professor to several universities and author of several books, he received Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2007. He was a member in the Bhuria Committee which recommended the Panchayati Extension to Schedule Areas. Lately, he was a Rajya Sabha member and also part of the National Advisory Council. His demise is a great loss to all those who strove towards creating an alternative discourse on Indigenous People’s issues and championing the causes of Adivasis. May his soul rest in peace.
