NEW DELHI: National Platform Against Water Privatisation ( NPAWP) and Citizen’s Front for Water Democracy (CFWD) have written to lieutenant governor Najeeb Jung asking him to continue with the free water scheme that was started by the AAP government.

Under this scheme, each family with a metered connection was entitled to up to 20kl of free water each month. However, with no funds available for this scheme in the interim budget, sources in the government said that it would be discontinued after March 31.

SA Naqvi, convenor CFWD said: “It is quite strange that DJB put forward its demand to continue this scheme to the Central government but the latter decided to do away with the subsidy in the interim budget for 2014-15. If this pro-public and environment friendly scheme is reversed, it will be a big blow to the fundamental rights of the people.”
