US Empire’s South American Toolkit

June 30, 2018

This week on Act Out! You can’t know America unless you know US Empire. We sit down with Kevin Zeese who has recently returned from Venezuela to talk elections, economic warfare and media blockades. Zeese describes how the electoral system in Venezuela works to prevent fraud and assure accurate vote counts.

We also take a look at Nicaragua, a country which also finds itself in the crosshairs of flailing US hegemony and economic crusading. Nicaragua is currently dealing with violent protests that are portrayed in the United States as violent, where the Nicaraguan government is accused of violence rather than the opposition protesters who are using mortars, guns, Molotov Cocktails and other weapons.

In both countries people in the United States are given misleading and false information about what is occurring. Eleanor ends with a discussion of the role of the National Endowment for Democracy spending millions of dollars to build opposition to the government and Nicaragua and support their protests.
