Karamsad residents seek ‘spl status’ for Sardar Patel’s native 30.4.2022 General News
The residents of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s native place Karamsad today sat on a fast unto death, demanding special status for the town by including it under the centrally-sponsored Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNRUM). Around 10 residents sat on the hunger strike near Sardar Patel’s statue in Karamsad town in Anand district since morning, while many other locals gathered near the venue to press for the demand, said Rashesh Patel, a leading agitator. He said that Karamsad’s identity as the native place of Sardar Patel, India’s first Home Minister, would fade away with time if the Centre does not include the town under its JNNRUM scheme. “We have been demanding that Karamsad must be given a special status for being the native place of the country’s Iron Man,” he said. “Porbandar, the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi, got this status many years back, but Karamsad, having a population of 40,000, is not given that status yet. A division bench of Madras HC stays single judge order granting permission to hold protest at Marina 29.4.2022 DNA: Money
Hours after a single judge of the Madras High Court granted permission to farmers leader P Ayyakannu to go on a fast on Marina beach in Chennai, a Division Bench of the High Court on Saturday evening passed an interim order banning protest at Marina. Farmers leader Ayyakannu, who led the famous protest in New Delhi last year, moved the High Court seeking permission to hold a 90-day hunger strike at Marina beach seeking the formation of the Cauvery Management Board (CMB). When the case came up for hearing earlier this month before Justice T Raja, police said that no one had the permission to protest at Marina. When the judge sought details of the last protest held at Marina with permission, the additional advocate general of the state Arvindh Pandian said except for the last year’s Jallikattu protest, no protest had taken place in Marina since 2003. After advising Ayyakannu to hold the protest in a dignified manner, Justice Raja on Saturday allowed the farmer’s leader to hold a day-long hunger …

Villagers protest for an underpass in Phagwara 28.4.2022 General News
Villagers today staged a dharna here, demanding an underpass at the Khalwaragate crossing on the Mehli-Mehtan Phagwara bypass to provide connectivity to about 45 villages with the city. Zila Parishad member Harbhajan Khalwara, and sarpanches of Khalwara, Dhak Pandori, Fatehgarh and Balalon villages took part in the sit-in. They alleged that due to the ongoing six-laning project of the Phagwara-Ropar Highway, crossings on a nine-km stretch of the bypass were being plugged, thus cutting the connectivity of a large number of villages with sub-divisional headquarter Phagwara. This will cause inconvenience to villagers, especially students and patients coming to the city, they argued. The protesters said they had earlier taken the issue up with local MLA Som Parkash and the company engaged in the six-lane projec, but to no avail. Tehsildar Inderbir Singh Minhas, who reached the dharna site, asked the protesters to give their demand in writing so that it could be taken up with appropriate …
