SHILLONG, Dec 08: A protest staged by members of the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) outside the official residence of Chief Minister, Dr. Mukul Sangma ended rather abruptly when the members of the NGO were summarily rounded up here on Friday.
These members of the HYC were later released after being picked up for ‘illegally’ staging this protest.

The surprise protest was taken out within an hour of the Chief Minister leaving his residence to attend the winter session of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, which began here on Friday.
Armed with placards and banners, the activists on hunger strike also shouted anti-Congress slogans condemning the passive attitude of the Chief Minister and his government towards the 14 charter of demands which include implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP).
It was a short time after the HYC members started the protest that police came and immediately picked them up, loaded them into a bus and took them to Sadar Police Station.
