JKNPP holds anti-govt protests over Rohingya issue 22.2.2022 General News
The J&K National Panthers Party (JKNPP) today held protests against the state government saying it had failed to deport Rohingyas and Bangladeshis from Jammu despite brewing public outrage, and demanded their immediate “repatriation”. Activists led by JKNPP chairman Harsh Dev Singh staged a protest at the exhibition ground here and burnt an effigy of the coalition government. The protesters accused the BJP-PDP combine of disregarding the public sentiment with regard to the eviction of “illegally settled foreign immigrants” from Jammu. Singh said if the Rohingyas were settled in Jammu during the Congress rule but the BJP had provided them all amenities and facilitated their stay in and around the winter capital. They had illegally raised fabricated slums at some of the congested colonies in Jammu city and managed to procure PRCs, Aadhaar cards, ration cards, free water connections during the saffron rule, he added. Murder: Cong demands CBI probe; decides to extend hunger 22.2.2022 General News
Congress-led UDF Opposition in Kerala today demanded a CBI probe into the killing of a Youth Congress functionary here, allegedly by the activists of ruling CPI(M). Senior Congress leader, K Sudhakaran, who was staging a huger strike here for the last four days demanding the arrest of the murderers, said he would continue the stir till the government order a CBI investigation in the case. A meeting of UDF leaders, convened at the protest venue today, took the decision to extend the hunger strike till an assurance received from the LDF government regarding a CBI probe into the killing. Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala, former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, KPCC president M M Hassan and Indian Union Muslim League leader P K Kunhalikutty were among those who took part in the meeting. Calcutta University Vice-Chancellor Sonali Chakraborty Banerjee, who left the campus last night after about 26 hours following students’ stir for permission to appear for examination despite inadequate attendance, today said the demand could not be met. “I left the campus at around 9.30 pm last night as I was feeling unwell and the students did not stop me. I will go to my office again this afternoon. I hope the agitating students will understand a rule framed in 1999 and enforced in all these years cannot be changed. Class attendance is important for any student,” she told PTI. Banerjee had not left the campus from 8 pm on Tuesday.
