Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MP CM Ramesh broke his indefinite fast on Saturday in the presence of Andhra CM Chandrababu Naidu after his health deteriorated. Ramesh has been on an indefinite hunger strike demanding the Centre to set up an integrated steel plant in Kadapa district as per the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act; his fast had entered the eleventh day.
Landing up at the site of the fast, Naidu as well as his son Nara Lokesh offered Ramesh a glass of lemon juice and spoke to the doctors an Ramesh's family members.
The breaking of the fast comes a day after Naidu spoke via teleconference to party leaders who were caught on video making fun of the fasting leader. A video of leaders at the Andhra Bhavan in New Delhi went viral where they are seen making fun of Ramesh and saying that they, too, should join the fast to lose some weight.
Naidu had asked the leaders to rein in their 'attitude' and said "this will hurt the interests of the state".
